Graduate Student Invited Sessions
The Southern Economic Association® (SEA) recognizes the importance of opportunities for young scholars to establish a habit of attending professional meetings and subjecting their work to the criticism of other professional researchers working in their fields.
To facilitate these opportunities, a number of sessions at the SEA 91st Annual Meeting, scheduled for November 20-22, 2021 (Saturday to Monday) at the Marriott Marquis Houston in Houston, TX, are designated as graduate student sessions. These sessions provide an opportunity for graduate students to present their scholarly work and to receive feedback from invited discussants and session attendees.
Each southern university with a Ph.D. program in economics is invited to nominate one advanced graduate student, preferably a student who will be on the job market, to participate in one of these sessions. Each graduate student selected will receive complimentary conference registration (valued at $50), a complimentary SEA student membership (valued at $40), and a $100 cash award.
To be eligible for these benefits, the graduate student selected to participate in the session must send his or her paper to the Graduate Student Program Manager approximately one month prior to the meeting. The paper submitted must be: 25 pages or less including tables – using 12-point font, double spacing, and 1-inch margins. A link to relevant on-line appendices is allowed.
Department chairs and/or graduate program directors interested in nominating a student should provide the name, e-mail address, paper title, and abstract (200 words or less) for the graduate student via e-mail to the SEA Graduate Student Program Manager, Dr. Bryan McCannon of West Virginia University, at Bryan.McCannon@mail.wvu.edu. Please submit all nominations by Thursday, April 1, 2021.
